With six weeks until presents are ferried down our chimneys the Christmas season has begun in Hornsby Shire.
To mark the occasion Santa Claus took a break from having his photo taken at Westfield to inspect Council’s Christmas tree with Mayor Steve Russell and Deputy Mayor Gurdeep Singh.
“It’s a nice tree and well decorated, very much in the Christmas spirit,” Santa said.
“I always prefer a real tree and it’s even better when it’s still firmly in the ground and vibrantly alive.”
This is the first year the Christmas tree on the west side of Hornsby has been decorated, taking over from a synthetic tree that has stood in Hornsby Mall in previous years.
“Council has decided to take advantage of this beautiful tree that stands directly out the front of our chambers and it’s not just an aesthetic choice,” Mayor Russell said.
“This also creates far more space in Hornsby Mall for the laying of synthetic grass, which was hugely popular last Summer, as well as the staging of concerts and events where the tree previously stood.
“I’d like to invite the families of Hornsby Shire to come have their photo taken under the tree as the start of a new tradition.”
