
Hornsby State Liberal MP Matt Kean joined Ku-ring-gai State Liberal MP Alister Henskens on Thursday to tour the soon to be opened Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital STAR building. The STAR building is the centrepiece of the $120 million Stage one redevelopment.
Mr Kean and Mr Henskens joined a public tour during the Hornsby Hospital STAR Building Community Open Day.
“For years, under Labor, the Hornsby community’s pleas for a hospital upgrade fell on deaf ears,” Mr Kean said.
“Today, residents are seeing the result of all their years of petitions, rallies and strong advocacy.”
The five-storey STAR building – which represents Surgical, Theatres, Anaesthetic and Recovery, houses:
- Three 28-bed inpatient units
- Eight new operating theatres (including one dedicated endoscopy procedure room);
- Sterilising services department;
- Pathology services;
- Kitchens;
- New supply and loading dock
- Health information services department (formerly known as medical records).
“The work for Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital does not stop here. Recently, the Liberal Government announced another $200 million for Stage 2. A purpose built, multi-storey clinical services building.” Mr Kean said.
Stage two will include; a major upgrade to the emergency department, extra inpatient beds and paediatric, imaging and ambulatory care services
