Part of the $120m Hornsby Hospital redevelopment

Hornsby State Liberal MP Matt Kean joined Ku-ring-gai State Liberal MP Alister Henskens on Thursday to tour the soon to be opened Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital STAR building. The STAR building is the centrepiece of the $120 million Stage one redevelopment.

Mr Kean and Mr Henskens joined a public tour during the Hornsby Hospital STAR Building Community Open Day.

“For years, under Labor, the Hornsby community’s pleas for a hospital upgrade fell on deaf ears,” Mr Kean said.

“Today, residents are seeing the result of all their years of petitions, rallies and strong advocacy.”

The five-storey STAR building – which represents Surgical, Theatres, Anaesthetic and Recovery, houses:

  • Three 28-bed inpatient units
  • Eight new operating theatres (including one dedicated endoscopy procedure room);
  • Sterilising services department;
  • Pathology services;
  • Kitchens;
  • New supply and loading dock
  • Health information services department (formerly known as medical records).

“The work for Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital does not stop here. Recently, the Liberal Government announced another $200 million for Stage 2. A purpose built, multi-storey clinical services building.” Mr Kean said.

Stage two will include; a major upgrade to the emergency department, extra inpatient beds and paediatric, imaging and ambulatory care services

“I am proud the Baird Government has delivered on its promise to upgrade Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, to ensure the highest quality patient care for years to come.”
