Lifeboat Seafood is a fresh fish café on the Hawkesbury at Brooklyn. A friend had told me that it was “arguably the best seafood in Sydney” so I was keen to take a look!
Beside the new marina, the Lifeboat Seafood is bolted on to the front of the Hawkesbury Fishermen’s Cooperative building. It is one of the slightly scruffy looking buildings, but you feel like you’ve hit upon a hidden gem as you walk in.
We had the special of the day: Fish, chips and salad with a glass of wine. There were quite a number of people already eating when we arrived, which is always a good sign and it was clear that many of them had travelled up from Sydney simply for the fish.
The fish was fresh. It was a very fresh piece of locally caught Snapper which was simply battered and served with thick cut chips and a simple but tasty green salad.
For the visitor feeling more adventurous, there are seafood platters for two, whole Snapper or local Mussels, Oysters, Prawns and Crab.
If you’re expecting fine dining, you’re in the wrong place, but if you are looking for good quality local fare, this is a good spot to try.
