Newport swamped by Barker Old Boys

BOBs show their dominance and win 56:5

For the last two years, Newport Rugby club have won the Division 2 Colts (Robertson Cup) competition. Last year, Barker Old Boys (BOBs) came third in the Div 2 suburban competition, so the clash between Newport and Bobs promised to be a good match. However, many of the Newport Colts have jumped up a grade to play for the regional Warringah Rats leaving the suburban Newport to reform and rebuild during 2014.

DSC_8562At the start of the match Newport could only muster twelve players on the ground which did not bode well for them as they were playing a strong BOBs side that were full of confidence coming off a win against St Ives last week.

Newport played surprisingly well and had a strong forward pack that played hard, but they were no match for BOBs who quickly stamped their authority on the match with a quick try. They followed up with three more tries and a conversion.

By half time, BOBs were 22:0 ahead and Newport looked rattled.

Newport mustered what little confidence they had left during the half time break and came out fighting. They did manage to break BOBs line once and scored a well-deserved try, but they were swamped by BOBs who ran away with the match winning 56:5.
