Sydney’s most loyal and faithful were out in force today to compete at the annual Jack Goldstien Memorial Obedience Trial at Primula Oval, Lindfield.

When we spoke to the Robina, the president of the Metropolitan Midweek Dog Training Club, she said that attendances were a bit down today compared to usual numbers because of the balmy springtime weather. That welcome ray of sunshine saw a number of furry contestants wearing cool vests to keep their core temperatures down while doing their drills out on the field.

The makeshift tents and umbrellas were also out, trying to keep temperatures down for the hard-working contestants.

For the dog lover, there was plenty to see and to marvel at. Aside from watching the dogs put through their paces in the challenging obedience trials, the finest examples of numerous breeds were on display today and they’d been freshly shampooed and groomed. Contestants had come from all over Sydney and beyond to attend the trial.

The trials covered dogs from Novice level through to Utility Dog Excellent level.

The trial is conducted annually by Metropolitan Mid-Week Dog Training Club (MMWDT), a voluntary dog obedience organisation affiliated with DOGS NSW.

MMWDT Club runs beginner obedience training courses and meets every Wednesday at Primula Oval in Lindfield. The Club says it can “help you raise a happy, well-mannered pet which can develop into competition dog trialling if you get the bug”.

The club was formed in 1967 and has operated from Primula Park Lindfield for over forty years. It is one of more than 50 Dog Training clubs operating in NSW and is affiliated with Dogs NSW, the governing body of canine activities in the state.

If you are interested in being involved, MMWDT run a Beginners course over 6 weeks, and usually commence on the 1st Wednesday of each month.
