Willoughby Band will honour the origins and spirit of the ANZAC tradition in Willoughby Remembers, a stirring concert featuring marches and timeless classics that commemorate the efforts and sacrifice of the men and women in the Australian Service.
The concert will also include the world premiere of Through a Soldier’s Eyes, the tale of the WWI surgeon, Weary Dunlop, which captures the emotive struggles of war and the physical and mental turmoil that it produces. In addition, a selection of swing classics associated with WWII and popular songs of WWI will also be performed.
Directed by the talented conductor Mark Strykowski, Willoughby Band features the best brass soloists in Australia including Heather Reid – Australian Champion Flugel Horn, Mark Coleman – Champion Horn and overall state champion, Jeff Ma – Euphonium Australian champion and NSW champion, Brian McGuinness – Australian and NSW Cornet champion, Chris Retter – Trombone NSW finalist and Luke Sandford – Baritone NSW champion.
“This concert serves as a touching tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their country,” said Willoughby Mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney. “I urge all members of the community to come along and help us keep their memory alive,” she said.
